A.  Paper backed wood veneers are approximately 1/64” thick overall.

Q.  Why the paper back?

B.  The paper back adds strength and stability.

Q.  How flexible and bendable is a paper backed wood veneer sheet?

A.  Paper backed veneers are extremely flexible when bent “with” the grain and very flexible when bent “against” the grain.

Q.  Do the paper backed veneer sheets come with the 3M peel and stick adhesive?

A.  You can order the paper backed veneers with or without the 3M peel and stick adhesive.

Q.  What sizes do the paper backed veneer sheets come in?

A.  Most of our paper backed veneers come in sheets that are 24” x 96” and 48” x 96”, but some of our paper backed veneer sheets are available in sizes all the way up to 5’ x 12’

Q.  How do I stain and finish a paper backed wood veneer?

A.  Paper backed veneers are real wood.  You stain and finish a paper backed wood veneer just like you stain and finish any wooden surface.

Be aware that Lacquers and penetrating finishes might penetrate through a paper backed veneer to the glue layer.  If you are using contact cement for your glue, this could loosen the contact cement.  This warning does not apply to Woodworker’s glue (eg. Titebond, Elmer’s,etc) or to the 3M peel and stick veneers or to the wood backed veneers. This warning does not apply to varnish finishes or shellac finishes.

One way to mitigate the penetration of a lacquer or penetrating finish on a paper backed wood sheet is to apply a coat or two of shellac first, then finish off the process with lacquer.  Do a trial run first to make sure that the shellac and lacquer will “marry”.

Q.  How are paper backed wood veneer sheets glued down?

A.  Paper backed veneers can be glued down with woodworker’s glue and clamps, contact cement, or by using the paper backed veneers that come with the 3M peel and stick adhesive.

Q.  How do I get an exact fit of the veneer sheet to my workpiece?

A.  Cut the veneer sheet to ½” larger on all sides than your workpiece.  Glue the veneer down.  Trim off the excess with a razor knife.
