What does book matched veneer sheet mean? Book Matching Wood Veneers Explained. How To Book Match Wood Veneers

Q.  What is a book matched veneer sheet?

A.  It is common to book match veneers. In fact, book matched veneers are almost always present in all furniture.

Here's how the book matching of veneers works: A log is sliced into thin veneer sheets. The veneer sheets are sequenced and kept in order. A sheet is virtually identical to the sheet above it and the sheet below it.

If you take 2 sequential sheets of veneer, lay them on a flat surface, and rotate the top sheet like a page of a book, you will have identically matching mirror image gran patterns from one sheet to the next. This is called a book match.

When you look at the book matched veneer sheets, you are seeing the top side of one sheet of veneer and the bottom side of the other sheet of veneer.

Sometimes the top side of a veneer sheet reflects light and takes a stain or a finish differently than the bottom side of the veneer sheet. This is not always the case, but it isn't unusual.
