Q.  What is a wood backed veneer?

A.  A wood backed veneer is a real wood veneer sheet that has a wood veneer back.  Wood backed veneer sheets are also called “2 ply veneers” and “wood on wood veneers”.

 

Q.  Is a wood backed veneer made of real wood?

A.  Yes.  Wood backed veneer sheets are real wood.

 

Q.  How thick is a wood backed veneer?

A.  Wood backed veneers are approximately 3/64” thick overall.

 

Q.  Why the wood back?

A.  Think of a wood backed veneer sheets as very thin plywood.  The wood back adds strength and stability.  The wood back prevents bleed through of the finish to the glue layer and it mitigates telegraphing of defects through from the substrate.

 

Q.  Does the 3/64” thick wood backed veneer come with the 3M peel and stick adhesive?

A.  You can order the 3/64” wood backed veneer with or without the 3M peel and stick adhesive.

 

Q.  What sizes do the wood backed veneer sheets come in?

A.  Most of our wood backed veneer sheets come in 24” x 96” and 48” x 96” sizes, but some of them come in sizes all the way up to 5’ x 12’

 

Q.  How do I stain and finish a wood backed veneer?

A.  Wood backed veneers are real wood.  You stain and finish wood backed veneers just like you stain and finish any wooden surface.

 

Q.  Is a wood backed veneer sheet pliable and bendable?

A.  Wood backed veneers are very flexible when bent “with” the grain and somewhat flexible when bent “against” the grain.

 

Q.  How are wood backed veneer sheets glued down?

A.  Wood backed veneers can be glued down with woodworker’s glue and clamps, contact cement, or by using the wood backed veneers that come with the 3M peel and stick adhesive.
