Mr. Morgan,
I have a client that is looking at wrapping 12' long beams in his living room with wood veneer. They are currently painted MDF beams. He is worried that the peel and stick would degrde or let loose due to the heat in the vaulted ceiling. I have used the peel and stick for cabinets, and I am really pleased with the results. But: they are not subjected to the amount of extra heat. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Michael
Hello Michael,
I don't have any experience with this exact situation with concerns about heat, but I do believe that the peel and stick adhesive would hold up. I've had customers who veneered the beams in their ceilings, but nobody ever mentioned any concerns about heat. I've had customers who have used the peel and stick veneer for the interiors of vintage cars and I've never had any complaints.
The 12' stock doesn't come with the psa adhesive.l It only comes with a paper backer.
If you want to use the peel and stick adhesive, it does come in the 8' long and 10' long veneers. Paper backed or wood backed.
To cover a 12' length, you would have to end match the veneer You can make an end match joint that is a book match. This is where the grrains match into each other making a mirror image.
Our veneer sheets are made using identical leaves. You can cut your pieces out of the larger sheet of veneer --- then rotate one of the pieces 180 degrees and match the end grain into the end grain of the other sheet.
